How Do Hygienic Tank Covers Work?
Unlock the tank cover or manway by turning the handle. Depending upon the model, swing the manway cover inwards, outwards or sideways to access the tank. Use the optional spring assist to open the cover and the optional safety lever to secure the lid. To close the cover, reposition the safety lever in its storage place and use the optional spring assist to close the cover. Turn the handle to secure the cover onto the opening and lock it into closed position.
Alfa Laval Access Tank Cover – Circular Cover Type HLSD-2
The Alfa Laval Access Tank Cover – Circular Cover Type HLSD-2 is an outward-opening manway cover that provides a secure fit for openings on top of pressurized tanks and containers. It is approved for use on pressure vessels according to PED 2014/68/EU. The HLSD-2 offers a quick, easy and convenient means of entry and egress to tank interiors. It also provides a closable means of access to the interior of the vessel, situated above or below the liquid level.

Alfa Laval LKDC–LP Tank Cover
The Alfa Laval Access Tank Cover - Circular Cover Type LKDC – LPB and LP is a stainless steel manway cover that provides a secure fit for openings on top of tanks or containers that require quick, easy and convenient entry and egress to vessel interiors. It is engineered to withstand vacuum conditions created during cleaning procedures or during production under low pressure conditions up to 1 bar.

Perfect Vacuum and Pressure Protection
The circular Alfa Laval LKDC – LP is a stainless steel tank cover specially produced to withstand vacuum created during cleaning or production. It handles low pressure conditions up to 1 bar in a temperature range from -10 to 140°C.

How it Works
Construction
To enable visual inspection and/or safe access into and egress from the tank, the tank cover swings outwards. A pin prevents the lid from hitting the tank wall and safely keeps the lid open. The tank cover is positioned above the liquid level on top of the tank to meet application requirements.
Operating Principle
To inspect or enter the vessel, open the round Type CG cover by loosening the handle. After exiting the vessel, close the manway cover by tightening the handle.

For hygienic processes, there are two models from which to choose: the oval-shaped Alfa Laval LKD Tank cover and the circular Alfa Laval LKDC Tank cover in standard and pressure models for both above and below the liquid level. These comply with 3-A Sanitary Standards and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Declaration of Conformity.
Swing Flexibility
Tank covers can be supplied with an inwards opening swing for inspection purposes as well as outwards and side-swing openings when physical entry is required. For washing and bottling machines, Alfa Laval has small rectangular and circular covers for use as hand doors.
Materials, Surfaces and Standards
Alfa Laval Tank covers are available in AISI 304 or AISI 316L stainless steel with EPDM, NBR, FPM or Q (silicone) seal materials. Surface finishes include electro-polished, brushed and acid pickled, and vary from Ra 0.4 to Ra 0.3 to meet the exceptionally high quality requirements of hygienic processes.
Alfa Laval Tank covers meet the requirements of the European Pressure Equipment Directive (EC unit verification), Module G and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Upon request, 3.1 Material Certification in accordance with EN 10204 can be supplied.
How it Works
Construction
The construction of Alfa Laval Tank covers varies, depending on the model.
To enable visual inspection and/or physical entry into the tank, the tank cover swings inwards, outwards or sideways, depending upon the model. Tank covers can be positioned above and below liquid level to meet different application requirements.
